What Is Dual Language

Dual Language programs are an exciting option for parents who want their children to have the advantages of a rigorous academic program while also learning two languages -  English and (at W.D. Williams) Spanish. Spanish is not taught as a subject.  Spanish is the language in which instruction is delivered.

The results speak for themselves:  By the end of kindergarten, students can respond to their teacher, answer questions, read and write in Spanish.  By the end of fifth grade, students are completing grade-level academic work in Spanish and speaking conversational Spanish.
Language immersion starts at kindergarten and continues through the fifth grade.  Your child will NOT ONLY be proficient in Spanish at the end of elementary school, they will also be fully prepared to succeed in a traditional non-immersion classroom.  In fact, research indicates that children who acquire a second language are better able to problem-solve and think creatively.
