Before the winter break, learning became a hoot for students at W.D. Williams Elementary. Third grade teacher Ellen Parryand her class flew into learning about snowy owls.

“I really wanted the students to relate to the information they absorbed,” she explained. “So, they had to use thinking caps in order to build their own snowy owl. We used pinecones, cotton balls, and googly eyes to make each one appear like the animal.”

The class read the book “Owl Moon”, which piqued their interest about snowy owls. The class dove deeper into facts about the bird such as, where they live, what they eat and how they survive in the winter.

“I gave the students this winter activity as the weather started changing to give them something to relate to,” said Ms. Parry.

More learning and fun awaits Ms. Parry’s students this New Year.
