Hello WD families, 

* Discretionary Admission/Release Applications (DAR): We will start accepting Discretionary Admission/Release forms for next school year Monday, May 11. This is for any student not living in the W.D. Williams district. You can scan and email the form or send it through regular mail. The fee will remain $20 through July 15. After that, the fee will increase to $50. Please call the school if you have any questions!

Parent Portal: Please continue to create your Parent Portal Account, if you have not already done so.  For instructions on how to create the account, please contact Diana Heard via email at diana.heard@bcsemail.org.  Parent Portal gives families the opportunity to see grades during this time of virtual learning.

Kindergarten Registration: Calling all parents of rising kindergarten students!  If you have a rising kindergartner or know someone with a rising kindergartner, please go ahead and complete the online Kindergarten Registration forms.  Instructions for online Kindergarten Registration can be found at www.buncombeschools.org/enrollment. If you have questions or need assistance with this process, please contact our school data manager, Diana Heard, at diana.heard@bcsemail.org.  

School meals and supply delivery 
Our open meal pick-up sites and meal delivery options will continue through June 3 as will our Family Resource Center. In the coming weeks, we’ll provide further details on our summer meal service.

We’ll continue serving breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays to anyone 2-18 years of age at the following locations (weekend meals will be distributed on Fridays during lunch times at all sites):

• Charles D. Owen High
• Emma Elementary
• Haw Creek Elementary
• Hominy Valley Elementary
• Johnston Elementary
• North Windy Ridge Intermediate
• Oakley Elementary
• W.W. Estes Elementary

Parents, you are also encouraged to fill out a Free/Reduced Meal Form, especially if your financial situation has been affected by the pandemic. You may do that online. Also, please reach out to your school’s data manager if you have a change of address to add to your form.


School Office: Our school office will be open from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you have a technology question, or need assistance with food or school supplies, please give us a call at 828-686-3856. We are here to help support our school community! Let us know what you need!  

June 3 is our last student day. Teachers will continue to connect with students through remote learning which includes providing online material, print material, or conferencing by video, email, or telephone. Instructions for how to pick up personal items left in the classroom and digital devices including Homework Hotspots back to your school will follow in the coming weeks. 

Technology Assistance: 
Our Technology Department can help address your students’ challenges to internet access or connecting with technology for their classes. You can contact them at 828-255-5987 or via  “ZenDesk” chat with our technology team Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. via this link.

* Ask a School NurseThe “Ask a School Nurse” phone line is up and running! This service is available to families and caregivers of students in our schools who would like to ask a school nurse a question but may not have an existing relationship with the nurse at their child’s school. The number is 828-407-2417, and all callers will be sent to voicemail. The messages will be monitored and calls will be returned by a school nurse. If a nurse speaks with a family about a chronic medical condition or anything they think may need additional support, they will notify the nurse at that child’s school for follow up.
