Fifth Grade ELA

This year students will be practicing to read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it. Students will cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from both Fiction and Nonfiction texts.

  • Students will write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.

  • Students will produce clear and coherent narratives, opinion writings and informational texts in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

Fifth Grade Social Studies Strands

  • Explore relationships between European explorers and American Indian Groups
  • Summarize the political, economic, and social aspects of life in the thirteen colonies

  • Explain the positive and negative effects of human activity on the physical environment of the United States, past and present

  • Understand that personal choices result in financial benefits or consequences.

Civics and Government

  • Analyze life in a democratic republic through rights and responsibilities of citizens

  • Understand how an increase in diversity resulted from migration, settlement patterns and economic development in the United States.
