At W.D. Williams Elementary excitement buzzed through the hallways as the first graders were cordially invited to attend a royal event unlike anything else the school had ever seen before. Students and staff came dressed in their best ball gowns and suits with crowns bestowed upon them in honor of the first ever Cinderella Ball.
This special event was part of their Wit and Wisdom program, designed to immerse students in classic literature and ignite their imaginations.
“Our first graders learned about the many versions of Cinderella,” said first grade teacher Katlin Lewis. “Through the different tales of Cinderella students deepened their vocabulary and knowledge of different types of parties each culture has.”
Once the grand ball began there was dancing, crafts, games and a “banquet” hall filled with delicious treats. For Mrs. Lewis, creating moments such as this is what makes first grade memorable.
“As a first grade teacher, it is important to stop and savor moments like these,” she explained. “This is the type of school event that students will look back on to remember for years and something our rising first graders can look forward to for years to come!!”
