A group of second graders from W.D. Williams Elementary embarked on an adventure that transcended time and space. Clad in bonnets and overalls, they celebrated Pioneer Day, immersing themselves in the rich history of the American frontier.
From churning butter to scavenger hunting around the school, these young pioneers delved into a day of hands-on learning, experiencing the trials and triumphs of their predecessors. Students witnessed first hand what life was like before technology and automobiles.
“Pioneer day is a special day for our second graders, because they are able to participate in real life activities that the pioneers did,” said second grade teacher Kendra Reinhardt. “This allows them to make real life connections with the books we’ve been reading.”
For the students, Pioneer Day is like taking a step back in time to when life looked a lot different than it does today. Ms. Reinhardt says this is a day she looks forward to each year.
“Seeing the students dress up is always exciting,” she said. “These are moments they will think back on and remember. Students are engaged, and participate in things they genuinely enjoy. This is what learning is all about!”
